Sarasaram: More than 4.33 cubic feet Crore (CFT) Sand Selundup worth RS200 Crore confiscated in Rohta in the past half a year has been stolen, assistant mine district officers Gopal Kumar told this newspaper.
“We will install firs in this connection immediately,” Gopal said.
He said the theft was detected during the physical verification of sand confiscated by the team from the mine and the State Geology Department during a two-day visit on 11 and June 12.
Gopal said only 51 lakh CFT from the seized sand was when the team was found 4.33 Crore CFT lost.
“After that the district level combined team was formed on July 15 to check inventory.
The team has sent a recent report,” Gopal said.
About 4.84 CFT crore sand was confiscated from various parts of the district for the past half a year and several fires also nestled in this connection.
The seized sand was handed over to the sand mining license holder for safe prisoners, he said.
However, Rohtas District Judge, Surendra Kumar refused to comment on this problem.
SP Rohtas, Ashish Bharati, said the police had nothing to do with the seized sand.
Incidentally, 17 officers, including two IPS officers, had been suspended recently because of their alleged Nexus with sand smugglers.
Dehri-on-Sone Sub-Divisional Magistrate (HR) Sunil Singh and ASP Sanjay Kumar are also convicted of alleged their involvement in facilitating illegal sand mining under their respective jurisdictions.
