WASHINGTON: Saudi Foreign Minister Saudi said on Tuesday he saw Iran who dared to act negatively around the Middle East, jeopardized shipping, arming Yemeni and contributed to political deadlock in Lebanon.
“In all regions, Iran continues to be brave,” Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud told US tanks in online appearance, alluding to report that Iran’s supported troops were believed to have taken oil tankers from the United Arab Emirates coast.
“Iran is very active in this region with its negative activities, whether it continues to supply Houthis with weapons or endanger shipping in the Bay of Arabia, which we have a report coming today that can indicate additional activities there,” he said.
Iran, he added, has ended the political deadlock that has damaged the Lebanese economy.
Overcoming a virtual meeting from the Aspen Security Forum, he also repeated Riyadh’s attitude that he could live with a “longer and stronger version” from Iran’s nuclear agreement with the world’s power if ensuring Tehran never obtained a nuclear arm.
“We certainly support an agreement with Iran during the agreement ensuring that Iran will never or have ever received access to nuclear weapons technology,” he said, said Riyadh would welcome an Iran that contributed to regional stability and prosperity.
“But it will need (Iran) involved in the region as a normal actor in a normal way, not supporting militias, not sending weapons to armed groups, and most importantly, submitting nuclear programs that can be used to develop nuclear weapons.”
