Saudi Freed’s daughter after 3 years in prison: rights group

Riyadh: Saudi authorities released a daughter and her daughter who had been detained at no cost for almost three years in the capital, said the human rights group on Saturday.
Basma Bint Saud, 57, a member of the old kingdom family was seen as a supporter of the rights of women and the constitutional monarchy, has been detained since March 2019, and in April 2020 begged King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to release him on health land.
“Basma Bint Saud Al Saud and his daughter Suhoud …
has been released,” said Alqst for Human Rights on Twitter.
“He was rejected by medical care he needed for potentially life-threatening conditions,” added the rights group.
“It’s not at the point during his detention it has the cost that has been leveled against it.” Saudi officials are not immediately available to comment on this case.
Daughter of Basmah was arrested shortly before the planned trip to Switzerland for medical care, according to a source close to the family.
The nature of the disease has never been disclosed.
Prince Mohammed has oversaw the journey of reform since he was appointed by his father King Salman in June 2017 at the expense of the previous designated heir to the throne, Mohammed bin Nayef.
Reformation has included raising a ban for decades for driving women and easing of what is called the rules of the “trusteeship” that gave men arbitrary authority over women’s relatives.
But the Saudi Authority has also cracked down the dissidents and even potential opponents, ranging from preachers to women’s rights activists, even Royals.
The daughter of Basmah was stored in Al-Ha’ir prison, where many other political prisoners were held.
In written testimony to the United Nations in 2020, seen by AFP, his family said his detention was likely to be mostly for “his record as a scary critic”.
He was also considered allies Mohammed bin Nayef, written testimony added.
In November 2017, the extensive anti-corruption campaign saw the Ritz-Carlton Luxury Hotel Riyadh served for three months as a de facto detention center for dozens of prince and senior officials suspected of being grafted or not loose.
In March 2020, Kingdom guards arrested the brothers and nephews of King Salman, accused them of triggering a coup against Prince Mohammed, according to several sources.
