Saudi UN envoy: Iran plays 'games' in talks with the kingdom

Dubai: The messenger of Saudi Arabia for the United Nations said the kingdom wants more substantive talks with Iran but that Tehran has so far waited for time and playing “games” in the discussion.
Saudi Arabia and Iran, Sunni and Shia Powerhouses in this region, launched a direct talk this year at a time global strength tried to save a nuclear pact with Tehran and as an effort that was not led to end the Yemeni war kiosk.
The kingdom, which cut bond with Tehran in 2016, has described the conversation as friendly but exploration, while Iranian officials in October said they had become “good distance”.
Riyadh envoy, Abdallah Al-Moonualimi told Saudi newspaper, Arab news in a video interview published on Monday that no major results had been achieved.
“We want to encourage this discussion to substantive problems involving the behavior of the Iranian government in this region,” Moudalimi said.
“But as long as Iran continues to play games with this talk, they will not go anywhere,” he said.
“Iranians take a long-term attitude towards this talk.
We are not interested in talks for the sake of conversation.” Tensions between the two spiny enemies in 2019 after the attack on Saudi oil plants which Riyadh trimmed in Iran, Tehran’s accusation denied, and continued to pay Yemen where the Saudi Led Coalition fought against the Houthi group that was in harmony.
“That (Yemen) has been proven that it cannot be considered only because Houthis continues to accept the supply of weapons and continuous ammunition from their generous, especially Iran,” Moualimi said, reiterating Iran’s allegations and the group refused.
This conflict is seen widely as a proxy war between Riyadh and Tehran, who are competing to influence throughout the region.
