Dehradun: Uttarakhand Minister of Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday recognizes the significance of Kanwar Yatra’s culture but stressed that his government’s priority continued to save his life in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Kanwar is part of a culture and saving lives is the most important.
The government’s focus is to ensure that Covid does not spread,” said Dhami handling meeting all Morchas (wings) from BJP countries here.
It is still uncertain whether Kanwar Yatra will be held or not this year with the third wave of Coronavirus knocking on the country’s door.
Even Chapter Uttarakhand Medical Association of India has written to the main minister who asked him to learn from the “previous failure” and did not allow Kanwar Yatra for the benefit of the state and the entire country.
People had to pay dearly to go off after the first wave that led to a stronger and more fatal wave, Secretary Ima Uttarakh Amit Khanna said in a letter to Dhami.
Hardwar Kumb which was held in April has led to a surge in Covid-19 case.
Dhami, who met the central leaders in Delhi including the Prime Minister to discuss various problems, have said repeatedly that saving human life is important.
However, categorical statements from him on whether Kanwar Yatra will be held this year still awaited.
Yatra for two weeks which began with the beginning of the month of Shravan around July 25 and lasted until the first week of August saw Kanwariyas crores from neighboring countries such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi gathered in Haridwar to collect Holy Waters Ganga.
Dhami also convinced his party that the state government will complete all development work taken within the specified time frame and action plan for this ready.
This monsoon can cause some disruption in work but on August 15 all government orders (GOS) will come out, he said.
President BJP Madan Country Kaushik asked all Morchas’s office carriers to live in their area or block for at least 10 days every month.
Praising all Morchas for their appearance during the two Covid waves, he said they had done a commendable job by holding a blood donor camp, distributing masks, sanitisers and oxygen cylinders among people, making them vaccinated and helping them get a hospital bed.
Asking them to prepare for the assembly polls scheduled to be held early next year, Kaushik said party members must receive a message about young leadership and slogans securing 60 seats with people in the state.
