Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that the row of borders between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh over disputed Kotia must be resolved through joint discussions.
Hearing an insulting request submitted by Odisha, justice a m khanwilkar and justice Sanjiv Khanna made an oral observation that the problem must be resolved politically through talks between the two countries.
The Apex court suspended heard in a six-week application.
Odisha’s opinion was that Andhra Pradesh had violated the command of the Supreme Court on December 2, 1968 and March 30, 2006, by deciding to hold Pancrayat elections in three Talagajeipadar villages, Phatuseneresi and Phagunaseneri in Pancayat, ignoring the status quo.
This is between 21 villages where both states claims of pegs.
They are part of the PottLangi block in Odisha, while Andhra claims they are part of the Mandal Salur under the Vizianagaram district.
Andhra Pradesh has issued a notice for the election of Panchayat on March 5 last year and held a poll in February this year.
Odisha told the court that these villages were under administrative control and in the 2019 elections, the villages of the Kotia have chosen as part of the Coraput Lok Sabha segment and the assembly segment of Pottang in Odisha.
The Supreme Court on March 30, 2006, was throwing a suit filed by Odisha in 1968, holding that Parliament itself was authorized to determine the boundaries of the country and have ordered the status quo until then.
Although the order is suitable for Odisha, which has administrative control now, increasing political and administrative activities in disputed villages by neighboring countries in the past two years has shaken Odisha.
While the main political parties have not responded to the advice of the Supreme Court, the Odisha Unit of the Jamajwadi Party on Tuesday wrote to the Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah to hold a meeting between Odisha’s main ministers and Andhra Pradesh considering political solutions for political solutions for disputes.
