NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked CBSE and ICSE to reveal in two weeks the objective criteria to be adopted for awarding marks to class 12 students.
The apex court said it is “happy” with the decision to cancel Class 12 board exams.
“We are happy to note that government has taken decision to cancel class 12 board exams but we want that the objective criteria fixed for assessment of marks be placed before us,” the bench said.

‘Be optimistic for a resolution’: SC agrees to hear plea seeking Class XII board exam cancellationThe Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a plea on May 31, a petition seeking cancellation of Class XII CBSE and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) exams amid the ongoing second wave of the Covid pandemic in the country.
The top court said that it will go through the objective parameters for assessment of marks, so that if any one has any objections it can be dealt with.
The CBSE had on June 1 cancelled the Class 12 board examination, which was followed by ICSE cancelling exam for its students.

After this decision, many state boards too went ahead with cancelling their Class 12 exams.
The SC said it will consider issues relating to class 12 state board examination, which covers over 1 crore students, after resolving the objective evaluation criteria issue concerning CBSE and ICSE.
A bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari assured that “SC will protect interest of all class 12 students” and said, “petitioners raising state board issue needs to have some patience.”
