New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday imposed a fine of several political parties, including BJP and Congress, for failing to obey his previous order about publishing information about candidates with criminal records.
The top court has fined the CPM and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) a number of Rs 5 Lakh because he did not attend his order in the 2020 Bihar election.
Other parties such as Congress, BJP, Indian Communist Party, JD (U), RJD and LJP were fined by RS 1 Lakh.
The court also said the parties were required to publish the details of the candidate on their website in 48 election hours and not before two weeks before the first date of the nomination submission.
In its order, the top court said he had time and once again appealed to parliamentarians to take steps to issue the amendments needed so that their involvement with criminal antecedents in politics was prohibited.
