New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday accesses the request center for hearing that is urgent about the petition that challenges the validity of the criteria for 10% of the more economically weaker part quota, the judicial process that has raised acceptance to the PG medical chair that leads to agitation by students.
Public Lawyers Tushar Mehta spent the bench headed by justice Dy Chandrachud that the Committee led by Secretary Ex-Finance Ajay Bhushan Pandey, who was assigned to review the criteria for candidate inclusion in the EWS category, had submitted its recommendations and that the center had submitted its recommendations.
Report in front of the court.
Judge Chandrachud said the problem would be asked to be heard by the bench also consisting of Judge Surya Kant and Vikram Nath, the last sit in various compositions during the first week of the new year, when the court was scheduled to hear new cases.
Judge Chandrachud told Mehta that he would consult with CJI and there would be an attempt to get the EWS quota case to hear this week.
The center on Sunday submitted a written statement in SC said it would remain on the criteria for the annual income limit RS 8 Lakh for the categorization of the EWS section, entitled to a 10% reservation in acceptance to educational institutions, including medical colleges, but promised to tweak other EWS criteria a little from next year.
The government said he had received a report on the Pandey Committee, who recommended the continuation of the RS 8 Lakh income limit with motorists, after a detailed analysis of the criteria and distinguishing it from the income criteria adopted to be tented in the cream layer for quota.
The Committee said “EWS may, however exclude, regardless of income, someone whose family has 5 hectares of agricultural land and above (as included in the 2019 criteria challenged in SC).” Changes from the 2019 EWS Norm will be the exception of the criteria for housing assets.
