Nagpur: The Supreme Court has taken Suo Motu’s awareness of a letter sent by NGOs who highlight the large damage caused by the environment due to a large number of development projects, including the proposed capital station (STI) in the Ajni van.
The letter was sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Swachh Association which complained about the wrong reporting in his office on logging trees at the Vann Ajni and other projects.
The copy was forwarded to the chairman of India NV Ramana and others, said lawyer M Anil Kumar, who requested litigation of public interests (pills) on the same problem on the bench Nagpur High Court of the Bombay.
Volunteeers NGOs – Joseph George, Anusaya Kale-Chhabrani, Krunal Morya and Wasudev Mishra said around 100 trees were adults were cut in the Quarter Ajni area and after their complaints to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Chorpagar Inspector Garden Amol even examined the area.
However, there was no action initiated under the protection of Maharashtra from Urban Trees Act, 1975, they claimed.
In addition, 60 more trees were cut down at the Ajni Depot.
In March this year, 12 trees were illegally cut by the IMS NCC Contractor limited to establish a temporary office.
Mahametro has cut down more than 100 trees for the construction of the gallery of watching and parking plazas in Futala Lake, volunteers accuse.
In all of these cases, NGO members said there were no compliance norms that were followed, or any permission was sought to cut down a large number of trees for new quarter development.
On the other hand, NMC also failed to take action despite complaints.
