SC to NDMA: Fix compensation for Covid victims’ relatives

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directing the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to determine within six weeks of ex-gratia which can be paid to each covid victim.
The Apex Court said that NDMA was legally mandate to provide minimum assistance standards, including ex-gratia to Covid victims.
NDMA has failed in carrying out its legal task by not giving the amount of ex-gratia.
However, the two judges from the Supreme Court headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, in his assessment refused to improve a certain amount as ex-gratia for Covid victims who said it was a financial problem and must be submitted to the executive.
India has recorded nearly 3.9 lakh death due to Covid pandemic, which has been declared a disaster under the disaster management law.
