Kolkata: a special investigation team that investigates false vaccine fraud has trained the lens in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials on alleged involvement of them with Scam Debanjan Deb.
The Civic’s body also saw how Deb, who went around claiming to be a commissioner with KMC, using a KMC banner, symbol, and even a hologram and a role that some civilians might have in helping him withdraw.
Apart from Fake KMC banners, holograms, letterhead, logo, and leaflets, investigators have also explored a large number of stamps from various departments such as I & CA, PWD and West Bengal State Election Commission.
Sitting tried to find out how Deb had a “direct access” for the KMC document which was then poor.
“The proximity to several KMC officials, civil and police contractors are being examined.
He used this contact to advance his plan to cheat traders, institutional heads and even relatives and friends themselves,” said an officer.
Sleuth said Deb had perfected the art of Photoshopping using the right font and the language used in the correspondence by KMC.
The police have found old files that seem to be from the building department but need to check whether they are genuine.
They also found the KMC tender issued between the middle of last year and hopefully this year.
Deb also falsified the signature of a KMC official.
It helps Conman to open a bank account on behalf of the KMC.
What was released by Kuningan Top Civic was how Conman managed to use the signature of the official forged to open an account when it had been mandated that the signature of the KMC financial controller and the Municipal (CMFA) account was very important to open the bank any account.
On June 22, when a fake camp in Kasba hit the headlines, a KMC senior official was stripped from two major departments.
It is not known whether the development is just a coincidence or the impact of fraud.
Police said the defendant had made a fake email account with a domain name similar to KMC including deputy manager@kmcgov.org.
“He used to make this account using Google G Suite,” said an officer.
The investigator said Deb wrote a letter to various government institutions in official language and would place the acceptance stamps on the letters to convince people.
The KMC itself investigates the role of several health officials.
“Despite having information about the camp, a senior health official does not keep his senior on the loop,” KMC source said.
