Scarlett Johansson demanded that Walt Disney Co.
for the release of streaming ‘Black Widow’, which he said violated his contract and seized potential income.
In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, ‘Black Widow’ star and executive producer said his contract guarantees the release of an exclusive theater.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the news about the lawsuit.
Johansson’s potential income is related to the performance of the box office film, which is issued by the company simultaneously in theaters and on its streaming services for renting $ 30.
“In the months before this lawsuit, Ms.
Johansson gave Disney and admired every opportunity to outperform them and make goodness in Marvel’s appointment,” said the lawsuit.
“Disney deliberately induces Marvel’s violations of the agreement, without justification, to prevent Ms.
Johansson realize the full benefits of bargaining with Marvel.”
The production company as the answer said the lawsuit “inappropriate at all.”
“This lawsuit is very sad and sad in a heartless neglect of a terrible and prolonged global effect of Covid-19 pandemic,” the company said in a statement.
They also claimed that they had fully complied with Johansson’s contract and subsequently, claiming that the release of films in OTT “significantly increased its ability to obtain additional compensation above $ 20 million that had been received.”
After his release was delayed more than a year because Covid-19, ‘Black Widow’ debuted to the best pandemic of $ 80 million in North America and $ 78 million from the international theater three weeks ago, but the theater grosses declined sharply after that.
In the second weekend in the release, the national association of theater owners issued a rare statement that criticized the strategy stating that simultaneous release matched the loss of higher-quality profits and piracy.
After taboo, the release of hybrid theater and streaming has become more normal for many of the biggest studios during a pandemic, with each adopt its own unique strategy.
The revised hybrid release strategy for 16 months sometimes leads to public spears from not only theater owners, but stars, filmmakers and investors who are not satisfied with the potential of the lost income and the alleged unilateral decision making involved.
WSJ said Media Warner, for example, paid more than $ 200 million in the “Amendment Agreement” with a talent for his decision to release all 2021 slate simultaneously in the cinema and on their OTT platform.
But no one became public as Johansson’s lawsuit.
The actor, who was in nine Marvel films returned to ‘Iron Man 2’ 2010, quickly became a trending topic on Twitter on Thursday after a broken news.
