Jaipur: The State Government finds it difficult to distribute scholarships to all students targeted under various categories of vulnerable including the scheduled castes, the scheduled tribes and OBC forces some of them to break up with the desire of support.
The data accessed by the Ministry of Education says that more than 4LAH benefits under pre-matric scholarships have not received RS 114.13 Crore in 2019-20.
Likewise, of the total RS 380 Crore scholarships in 2020-21, the state can only distribute Rs 108 Crore at the end of December 2020.
The report said the estimated number of students who qualified for scholarships was 12 lakh registered in class 6 -10.
The estimated amount needed to provide scholarships to all students is Rs 250 Crore.
“The state needs to allocate an additional Rs 98 Crore to pay scholarships to 4 Lakh 2019-20 students,” said a source.
Toi called Samit Sharma, Secretary of Social Justice and the Empowerment Department, but could not connect with him.
The anomaly implications are the cost of students from vulnerable groups.
Vikas Meghwal (19), who lives in slums in Jaipur, has not received a post-matrix scholarship of 6,000 per year at 2020-21.
“I want to receive a ticket to the Polytechnic College only if I get a scholarship,” said Meghwal, whose father worked as a pair of retirees.
Monika Kumari, 10th grade student from Noornagar Village in Alwar, fear cannot continue his education after his matrix.
“This is discouraging not to get a scholarship money, especially during a pandemic when my father doesn’t work for months.
Also, we go through a very boring document process to apply for a scholarship.
It’s a waste when we don’t see whatever results,” said Kumari.
Priyanka Meghwal, a 10th grade student and the villagers of Nayapura Jodhpur in Osiian Tehsil said, “Scholarship money will help me buy a data package to attend the online class.” Reacting to the situation, KB Kothari, a former policy planner at UNICEF said, “I understand that the state faces a big problem in the recipient’s verification because Covid but still has to be prioritized to maintain their gross registration ratio (GER).”
