Coimbatore: On the first day of school reopened for class IX to XII on Wednesday, more than 64% of students appeared in schools and private schools in the district.

N Geetha, District Head Education Officer, said, “Because the class XII examination exams play an important role in the process of college acceptance, parents worry about coaching and wanting offline classes to continue.” Class X students also show interest in attending physical classes and 68% of them appeared on the first day, he said.
The response from class IX and XI students, however, are relatively gloomy, especially in government schools where their presence reached almost 48%.
Geetha said he had asked the teacher to make efforts to bring more students back to schools after checking the reason for absenteeism.
Fear of Covid-19 also seems to have forced some parents to decide to oppose sending to their neighborhood to school.
Samson Selladurai, Principal, Nava Bharath International School, said 89% of students were present at school on the first day.
“Parents of three of 101 students worried about the possibility of Covid-19 deployment.
They wanted to send their wards only after vaccination.
While we tried to convince them, we did not press them to send their children to school.
