Kolkata: Minister of Bengal Bengala Barat Mamata Banerjee on Monday said schools in the state will be reopened after the Puja holiday, provided the Covid-19 situation did not change to worse.
He also said that drives sanitization will be carried out in educational institutions before their campus reopens for physical classes.
“Schools in Bengal will be reopened after the Puja (holidays), as long as the situation is profitable.
If the third wave does not change to be dangerous, we will clean the school building and reopen them.
We want to start school.
We want students to go to school,” said Banerjee told reporters.
By asserting that the Covid-19 situation in the country is currently “controlled”, the minister’s chairman further clarified that if the number of nail cases, as it was done in Maharashtra and Kerala, “I am not sure what decisions will be taken”.
Earlier this month, CM, attended the Global Advisory Board (GAB) meeting, headed by the Nobel Laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, has hinted that the state government was looking into the opening option of schools and colleges on the day of the puja after the holidays.
Incidentally, another Nobel winner, Amartya Sen, during the webinar on Sunday, said, “There is no instant answer for the debate about the opening of the school campus in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic”.
Furthermore, cents said that children suffer a lot because schools remain closed but their health concerns cannot be ignored.
The institute of education in Bengal is mostly closed since the plague of Pandemic Covid-19 in the country in March last year.
