Scientists connect breast cancer with liver damage

Mysuru: A study conducted by scientists from The JSS Medical College, School of Pharmacy and the School of Life Sciences and JSS Mysore show that breast cancer causes liver inflammation (hepatitis) and fibrosis.
Studies have explored the possibility of molecular mechanisms behind the breast.
Cancer-related comorbidity such as liver injury, the researchers said, adding that their research was recently published in the peer-reviewed journal, the advancement of biological-metastasis cancer.
This study was conducted by Dr.
Prasnana Santhekadur, Ramalingaswami Professor and Ramalingaswami Department of Biochemistry at The JSS Medical College, and PhD students, Nirmala GS and Varsha DS, in collaboration with Dr.
Samudata C Prabhuswamath, Assistant Professor at JSS School of Life Sciences and Professor Saravana Babu C and Sunana Tuladhar at JSS Pharmacy School, MySuru.
It was supported by the Fellowship of Ramalingaswami, the Indian government biotechnology department.
Available for liver inflammation related to breast cancer and fibrosis.
The heart is vital organs and is involved in more than 500 functions in the body.
Liver damage associated with breast cancer can develop in liver cancer or hepatocellular carcinoma.
This study helps in understanding liver damage associated with breast cancer and helps target tumor angiogenesis for the treatment and improvement of liver function.
According to the researchers, there are one or two drugs available on the market to treat inflammation of the liver, fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Madhura Phatak, Midwifery Consultant and Gynecology at Manipal Hospital in Mysuru, said: “There was a previous study showing that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
(NAFLD) as a risk factor for breast cancer in humans.
Both of these conditions as we know are related to Obesity metabolic syndrome, diabetes and hypertension.
This novel study on the rat model has shown a mechanism in which breast cancer cells produce damage to liver cells by producing new blood vessels (neo angiogenesis) in the liver, in turn resulting in inflammation and fibrosis; thus, Influencing normal liver function.
“He added:” This is a precursor for the development of liver cancer.
Extrapolating this study to humans will mean finding out how to reduce liver damage.
This can help reduce long-term morbidity and mortality to breast cancer victims.
