Nagpur: The South East Central Railway (SETR) aims to have a two-way path with an automatic signaling system on the third line project between Kalamna and Durg, a stretch of 259 km, in the Nagpur division to increase the capacity and cargo more passengers shipments in the future Howrah-Mumbai.
At present, SECR boasts the longest stress in India 31km traces twice with an automatic signaling system between Rajnandgaon and Dongargarh.
This system is also operational at 8km stretches between Bortalao and Darekasa.
The work was underway in stretching like Rajnandgaon to Durg, Durg to Dongargaon and several in Bhandara.
The technical application and successful technology have helped secr record the highest exchanges of 215 trains a day and reach the fastest average speed of more than 62 kmpj for train goods.
According to sources in SECR, the train board has set a March 2022 deadline to resolve most of the two-way trajectory works with automatic signaling systems on the third row between Rajnandgaon and Durg.
The new system will reduce the operational time at the train station by replacing an existing absolute block signal system that only allows one train to the two stations at once.
“Every piece of block is 10-15 km.
In an automatic signaling system, the part is divided into smaller sub-parts that allow facilities to run several trains,” said an official.
The signal is operated automatically with the passage of the train.
Thus, more trains will travel between two stations.
“The train that comes from behind is given a signal to enter the sub-section after it’s clear,” the official said that the automatic signal can be implemented in several years without acquisition of fresh land.
It was studied, the train was on the verge of introducing a multi-section digital axle counter with standby provisions to provide automatic signaling.
“The display screen will be provided at the station to monitor the train moving in the automatic signaling section,” the official said.
The system, from a security point of view, is also praised as a ‘fail-safe’ design.
“If the green signal fails, the next permissive signal ‘Double Yellow’ will be displayed.
If the ‘single yellow’ fails, ‘Red’ will be displayed.
If the ‘Red’ signal fails, the ‘Red’ alert signal will be displayed,” said the official adding the system Helps eliminate human mistakes.
According to the Maninder UPPAL, SECR Divisional Railway Manager, the Nagpur Division, the automatic signaling system has helped the division achieve unprecedented momentum in the transportation car and train frequency.
“The speed of the goods in the Nagpur Division is a benchmark in Indian Railway because of the system,” he said.
