Arlington: Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that “we remember not only who teammates fell us, but the mission they shared.” Austin made a statement prepared at the Pentagon Ceremony Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attack.
He continued, “We remember their shared commitment to defend our republic …
and honestly faced new dangers.” Austin noted that “almost a quarter of the residents we maintain today were born after 9/11,” including many of the 13 American service members killed in recent attacks in Afghanistan.
