Washington: US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who was touring the Gulf, unlimited delayed a visit to Saudi Arabia, the Pentagon said on Wednesday, quoting the “scheduling problem”.
“The secretary’s journey to Saudi Arabia has been postponed due to scheduling problems.
He hopes to reschedule on the most quick occasion,” said an Official Defense Department told AFP.
Austin traveled to the Gulf region earlier this week, a week after a chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan ended.
He first went to Doha with the Secretary of State Antony Blinken to visit the main base for a large airlift founded by the United States from Kabul.
The United States and its allies evacuated around 123,000 people, most Afghans were afraid of Taliban retribution, in the last days of the 20-year US War which was ended with President Joe Biden last month.
Austin then went to Kuwait, where he met Wednesday with the country’s leaders.
He thanked them for their “important role” in supporting the evacuation from Afghanistan, the Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.
Austin was also caused by a trip to Bahrain.
