New Delhi: A 29-year-old security guard was arrested for allegedly ordered extortion of Rs 30 Lakh from a businessman using the name Gangster Neeraj Bawana who was imprisoned, police said on Monday.
Mahavir Sharma, a resident of Pitampura Delhi Barat, tried to extort money from the businessman, who was a former employer, to take revenge after he was expelled from his work for the insulation of about six months ago, they said.
Police said in August this year, Shrama sent two handwritten letters through courier to the entrepreneur’s office in Rohini demanding money.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Pranav Tayal said the handwriting letter was received at the employer’s office on August 5 through couriers.
The letter contained requests for Rs 30 Lakh as extortion in the name of Gangster Neeraj Bawana.
The problem was reported to the police on August 14 at the South Rohini police station, based on FIR registered in this matter.
During the probe, courier services were identified and CCTV recordings from the area were scanned to identify the defendant.
Employees who were excluded from their work such as Sharma were also questioned, police officials said.
The accusation of sending other letters demanding extortion on October 30 and the details of the letter helped the investigation team identifying the extortion, they said.
“Our team identified the squeezer and tracked its location in Shalimar Bagh where he was arrested when he was carrying out the duty of an armed guard in a bank in the area” DCP said, “he acknowledged his involvement in this case and revealed that he had worked as a guard in the office of the complainant company And removed from there on the grounds of the insiscience of about six months ago, “he said.
Sharma, who came from Alwar in Rajasthan, lived in Delhi since 2008 and has worked as a security guard in various companies.
In 2019, he obtained a weapon license from Delhi, police said.
