Seize the deposit if there are no rainy water harvesting facilities in the building: Chanda Municipal Commissioner

Chandrapur: Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) has made a mandatory rainwater harvest arrangement for new construction within the city limits and has decided to confiscate security deposits related to rainwater harvest if the builder fails to provide evidence of facilities in the new building.
CMC takes deposit ranging from RS20,000 to RS50,000 against rainwater harvest, depending on the size of the terrace and floor in the building, while providing building permits.
Vipin Paliwal commissioner directed officials to confiscate this deposit if the builder did not develop facilities in the new building.
He showed that the height of underground water in the city was thinning continuously and every year, the city faced the lack of acute water.
“The only solution to this problem is to absorb rain water to the ground.
CMC has implemented a scheme where each property holder builds rain harvesting facilities given an incentive RS5,000 and a 2% concession in property tax,” said Paliwal.
He added that the Civic body had decided to promote rainwater and mandatory harvest for every new building to have facilities.
“City corporation will also build a machine hole throughout the city to refill ground water,” Paliwal said.
