Panaji: NCP on Thursday inaugurated the former Minister of Water Resources Filipe Neri Rodrigues and stated that the former BJP MLA would oppose the February 14 election as a NCP candidate.
NCP also announced candidates for four other constituencies and said that the list of candidates would eventually come out on Friday before the deadline to submit a nomination ended.
NCP National Secretary General Patel Patel said that even though he did not support politician defects, the party approved the nomination of Rodrigues due to local political compulsion.
“We always stand for high values and good behavior in public life,” Patel said.
“I don’t support disabled people here and there, no one supports it, but the situation in Goa has been like that for years.” Maharashtra housing minister and NCP Mla Jitendra Awhad have been assigned to party campaigns in Goa and have been appointed as NCP election observers.
Patel said that the head of NCP Sharad Pawar will visit Goa to campaign for a party after he recovered from Covid-19.
NCP and Shiv Sena, the Alliance of Partners in the Government of Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra, have been united for the election of Goa Assembly as well.
“We hope in Goa we will be able to have a coalition government.
When things stand, it is very clear that no party will get absolute majority, and as I mentioned before, we are very unhappy and still surprised by Congress,” said Patel.
The party has chosen Ravindra Toaulikar as a candidate for Madkai, Godfrey d’Lima for Tivim’s constituency, Aloysious d’Silva for Quepem and Domacio Barreto for Sanguem.
This party aims to compete around 15 constituencies.
“We hope to win at least three to four seats, it might increase.
We have candidates who have a 100% chance to win.
After all candidates are announced, we will sit with Shiv Sena to analyze and understand the prospect of our candidates,” Patel said.
With less than 24 hours for the nomination archiving end, NCP is still discussing with several candidates.
