PANAJI: Minister of Transportation Attack Mauvin Godinho about political rivals and veteran armed forces Viriato Fernandes has triggered an angry reaction from Congress.
Godinho accused Fernandes, a former captain in the Indian Navy, was “selfish”, “safe player”, and “never put his life at risk” during the Cargil War.
Congress’ Goa Desk responsible for Dinesh Gundu Rao described Godinho’s statement as an “unrepent attack” and insults not only to former military officers but all uniformed men who had served the nation.
“He claimed him in defense.
I have never seen someone selfish with this person,” Godinho said about Fernandes, who was the recipient of the OP Vijay and OP Vijay medal, the recognition of the armed forces against those who participated in combat operations in Vijay’s operation (war Cargil) In 1999.
Fernandes was an air engineering officer with the Navy’s 550 Inas Squadron, which was deployed along the Indo-sir border.
Godinho has used Fernandes’s last post to mock the Congress candidate, saying that naval officers “posted in the defense canteen that sells alcohol” at low prices.
“Someone who claims he is a big soldier, working in the Navy, will the navy post it into the canteen to keep it? Items including alcohol for sale there at the concession rate,” said BJP MLA.
Gundu Rao said Godinho’s comments reflected his mindset and BJP’s prettures about becoming a nationalist party.
He added that Godinho had insulted the Indian armed forces and had to apologize.
