PANAJI: Hours before the list of BJP’s first candidate for February 14 assembly elections was announced, Nuvem Mla Wilfred D’SA resigned as a legislator and from the primary membership of the party on Wednesday.
He will oppose the election as an independent candidate.
D’SA said that he stopped BJP because the Nuvem constituency was dominated by Catholic and there was no sound for BJP.
“I have resigned as a MLA for a contest as independent.
I have notified BJP when I join them that I will not fight for BJP ticket elections,” he said.
“My supporters and sympathizers I told me not to compete in BJP tickets, but for contests as independent candidates.
I have consulted with my supporters.” In July 2019, D’Sa joined BJP along with nine other MLA Congress after being split from Congress.
“Whatever BJP work promised me, they did it.
CM had helped me a lot.
When I joined BJP, I have one request that I want to develop in my electoral district.
Over the past 25 years there was no development in elections.
More than RS 130 Crore development work is being carried out in my constituency, “D’Sa said.
He said that when he joined BJP, several Catholic voters were angry at him, but after seeing his appearance in the past two and a half years, those who were annoyed have also joined him again.
“Even if people are upset with me, they don’t leave, except one,” said the former Mla.
He said that TMC had approached him to join them to oppose the assembly selection, but after consulting with his supporters, he decided to compete as an independent candidate.
“My supporters told me not to join TMC and I had rejected the TMC proposal.
NCP has also approached me, but my supporters also told me not to join NCP,” D’Sa said.
Asked whether he would support BJP after being elected, D’SA said that he would consult with his supporters before making a decision.
With the resignation of D’Sa, four Mornity MLAs BJP has left a party before the poll, including one minister.
Already the former Calangute MLA and former Minister of Science and Technology Michael Lobo, former Vasco Mla Carlos Almeida and former Cortarim Mla Alina Saldanha left the party.
Also the former Mayem Mla Pravin Zantye came out of the party and joined MGP.
