Agra: Two Muslim brothers, who run a roadside food kiosk in Mathura – named Srinath Sin Corner – Allegedly harassed and their restaurant was damaged by members of the local right-wing clothes that objected to Hindu names.
The incident forced the duo to change the name of the ‘American Sin Corner’ restaurant.
On Saturday, one person was arrested in connection with the incident, the police supervisor said M P Singh.
The defendant was identified as Srikant Sharma, a member of the International Hindu Parishad, an organization that has been unknown.
“The problem is being investigated and strict action will be taken against the defendant,” SP said.
Mathura police have registered firs against unknown people under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and 427 (damage) IPC at the Kotwali police station.
Brothers, Irfan and Aabid (which were only identified with their first name), said they had run kiosks for the past five years with the same name without incidents.
“We recently sold it to someone named Rahul Thakur, but we manage it,” Aabid said, adding that the name of the stall has now been converted into a “American sin corner”.
The incident took place on August 18 and soon after, the video became a viral on social media.
In a two-minute video, someone can be seen asking Aabid, who attended the customer at the time, why the cage brought Hindu names.
The man can be heard threatening, “Remove his name now.
Hindu will not eat at a shop if they know your true identity.” Kiosk banners are also torn up later.
International City President Hindu Parishad, Dev Sharma, said the organization objected to the kiosk as “Hindu sentiment was injured by the abuse of the name Lord Krishna, Srinath.” “They (Muslims) may not use Hindu names to get money.
Mathura is a religious city and things like that can damage community sentiment”, said Dev Sharma.
Last week, a seller of bangle from above, Tasleem Ali, was beaten in Indore because it uses a “fake name” to sell its belongings in a Hindu dominated area.
He was also slapped with Pocso’s actions for allegedly making progress on a 13-year-old girl and was arrested by the police.
