New Delhi: The expert panel formed by the government has recommended to respond to giving permission to the Indian Serum Institute (SII) to do a second phase and three clinical trials from Covavax Covid-19 vaccine in children between 2-17 years old, said the source Thursday.
According to sources, the government panel has asked the Institute to complete trials in adults first.
Pune-based SII CEO, Adar Poonawalla, has been in March this year said that trials for Covavaks, Covid-19 vaccines developed by US-based vaccine producers Novavax have begun in India, and added that he hoped the vaccine.
The launch will take place in September this year.
Indian Serum Institute has enrolled at the Indian Narcotics Control General (DCGI) on Monday which seeks permission to conduct covavax clinical trials in children at 10 sites.
“The subject expert committee (set) recommends that Pune-based companies have to submit the Covavaks of Safety and Immunogenicity from the ongoing trials in adults to consider trials in children,” said Sumber Ani.
The Novavax vaccine candidate has partnered with the Pune Institute of India-based vaccine manufacturer to produce a dose in India.
Last month, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi began screening children in the age group 6 to 12 years for covaxin clinical trials, the original Covid-19 vaccine developed.
AIIMS Delhi has completed a clinical trial for one dose of kovagin for children aged 12-18 ages.
Meanwhile the US had in May which was approved by the Covid-19 vaccine Pfizer for use in children Semaha 12.
Pfizer shot was the first to be cleaned in the United States for children 12 to 15.
