Mumbai: A 72-year-old man allegedly cheated by Rs 4 lakh by an unknown person, who posed as an executive provider of cellular network services in the Mumbai Middle Maham area, police said on Thursday.
The incident was revealed when senior citizens filed a complaint of fraud on Wednesday, alleged that he had lost savings with Rs 4 Lakh’s song, an official said.
According to complaints, the victim had received a message on his cellphone on July 25 to update the details of your customers (KYC) or the network’s face disconnection, after he called the number mentioned in the message, the official said.
During a call, someone who posed as a company executive cellular service provider asked for a complainant to download the application, which allowed a cheater to see the victim’s cellphone screen, he said.
Unknown accusations then obtain important information such as the ATM card number and password, and ask the victim to transfer RS 10 fees as part of the procedure, the official said, added that banking details were then used to transfer RS 4 lakh.
The victim must know about fraud when he received a call from his bank the following day, the official said.
Based on complaints, the police have registered firs under the relevant parts of the IPC and acting and investigations are underway, he added.
