New Delhi: The equity index opened at a record high on Wednesday with BSE Sensex trading benchmarks above 54,000 marks for the first time led by an increase in banking shares.
The 30-sharing sensex package jumped 601 points or 1.12 percent to 54,425 in the initial trade; While the wider NSE moved 154 points or 0.95 percent higher to 16,285.
The top cross in the BSE index includes Tata Steel, HDFC Twins (HDFC and HDFC Bank), Infosys, Dr.
Reddy’s and Reliance Industries with their shares up 2.33 percent.
On the NSE platform, the nifty metal and media sub-index jumped as much as 1.56 percent.
“Sentiment in the Indian market remains positive with an increase in the GST collection and the manufacturing sector to get encouragement and post the strongest growth rate in July in the midst of easing restriction of Covid-19,” Gaurav Garg, Head of Research, Capitalvia Global Research Ltd.
