Chennai: A 29-year-old man walked along the Tambaram-Maduravoyal bypass on Tuesday night died after a tire from a separate trailer truck and slammed it at high speed along with the iron rod.
The police identified the deceased such as Muthulingaraj, a native of Thoothukudi who worked as an AC technician.
Vandalur residents occurred on the stretch of his bicycle when he stopped to attend nature calls.
He tried to call someone and walked on the side of the road when the incident happened.
“Some people passed to see the tire slid through the air and tried to call him (Muthulingaraj) but it was too late when they hit him in a few seconds,” said a police officer who quoted a witness.
Sridhar, a trailer truck driver who usually has eight tires, takes a vehicle to Maduravoyal from Vandalur, police said.
He initially did not notice that one of them released the attached stem.
Only after he lost control of a large vehicle, with the back end swaying, that he realized something was wrong.
Some people at that place also told him what happened.
Muthulingaraj rushed to the nearest private hospital and then shifted to the Kilparuk Government Medical College and the hospital where the doctor conducted an examination and declared ‘taken dead’.
The police registered a case against the driver and accused him of causing death from negligence and being investigating.
Initial investigation revealed that he was on his way to load goods.
The police said that because of the ongoing covid locking, trucks may still be used for a long time.
It can be operated without maintenance and checks that can cause accidents.
This, they said, could be because of the failure and detachment of the wheel bearing because it accelerates.
