Chennai: More than three fifths of people in Tamil Nadu have antibodies that will offer higher protection against the virus which causes Covid-19.
While epidemiology, virologists, and public health authorities now hope to see less reception and death of hospitals, they emphasize there are several reasons why countries and people cannot maintain their health.
First, because Seroprevalence is not a uniform figure, even the high prevalence district is not yet completely safe.
“Moving without a mask is still not an option anywhere in the state,” said R Sunerraman, public health expert and former director of the National Health System Resources Center.
“We can say that Chennai is relatively safe because more than 80% of people have antibodies.
But not all Chennai is safe.
A block of apartments or an environment that lives in their workplace or their workplace has only 20% seropositivity.
In that case , there can be a micro epidemic there, “he said.
This means that those who are not vaccinated, especially parents and others with comorbid conditions, continue to face high risks.
“General rules are wearing at least one mask and maintaining social distance.
For additional protection, one can use a double mask in a bustling area and a closed room.
Elderly and those who have poor health conditions, who have not been vaccinated may need N95,” said Senior virology Dr.
Jacob John.
Experts also suggest that in areas with lower seropositivity level vaccination must be a high priority.
“Vaccination will not stop transmissions, but there is enough evidence to show it will definitely reduce death,” said the senior epidemiology of Jayaprakash Muliyil, which is also part of the country’s task force in Covid.
“So, the state must ensure that everyone receives at least one dose of vaccine,” he said.
The state, he said, must use this result as evidence to unlock college and school.
“There may be a naughty mutant that might bring us back to the square.
But it’s not a pretty good reason for us to force children to stay at home,” Muliyil said.
“We must meet our expectations in the antibodies we have developed against this disease,” he said.
Even if antibodies are reduced over time, biological memory response will be able to respond quickly when someone is infected again.
And this will reduce the severity of the disease, he said.
However, experts of infectious diseases such as Subramanian Swaminathan, said they were not so sure.
“High seropocytivity is largely caused by natural infections and not vaccines,” he said.
The seropocity fell between October 2020 and April this year because immunity infection did not last long, he said.
“We don’t know the future,” he said.
Public Health Director Dr.
TS Selvavinayagam agrees.
“This is a new virus.
We see cases up in April, when antibodies go down.
Other evil mutations can also worsen the situation,” he said.
The priority is to increase vaccination and precautions and readiness steps in the district with a lower antibody level, said the ICMRNational Institute of Epidemiology Director Dr.
Manoj V.
