Ahmedabad: To increase the production capacity of Remdesivir, the state of the state recently gave its approval to seven more units to produce antiviral drugs used to treat Covid-19 patients.
It will take the total number of remediesivir manufacturing units in Gujarat up to 21, of the 14 units approved before the second wave of Covid-19, according to the administrative administration of food and drugs Gujarat (FDCA).
“We recently gave approval to seven more units to produce remdesivir.
This includes six under Cadila Healthcare Limited and one of Lincoln Pharmaceuticals.
Gujarat already has around 14 units of making rempassivir, for domestic use and export and this will increase capacity , “said HG Koshia, Commissioner, FDCA, Gujarat.
The Indian government banned the export of remedies for April 11, to meet increased drug demand during the second wave of Covid-19 infection.
New units under Cadila Healthcare Limited include amneal pharmaceuticals and german medicine facilities in Ahmedabad; Biosciences Guffic Limited in Navsari; Elsiyum pharmacy in Vadodara; Abaris Pharmaceuticals in Mehsana and Zen Pharma Private Limited in Vapi.
Remdesivir’s shortage was reported in Gujarat during the second wave, especially in the second week of April, because the Covid case began to peak, according to sources at the Federation of Gujarat State Chemists and the Pharmacy Association (FGSCDA).
“We are indeed facing short supplies of drugs in April and perhaps because of the number of cases of everyday fired dramatically.
In addition, remedies are not only stockpiled but also not severely prescribed,” said an FGSCDA official with the terms of anonymity.
FDCA data shows that in April and May, 17.65 lakh Vial Remdesivir was distributed throughout Gujarat.
During this period, 4.99 the case of Lakh Covid-19 was reported in Gujarat.
“Additional production capacity has been regulated as part of the state readiness for the third wave projection of Covid-19 infection.
With more units, the country will be more complete,” Koshia said.
