Coimbatore: The authorities save seven workers bound, including two children and nine months pregnant women, from the brick unit of Kiln in Jalipatti Village in Animalai Taluk on Thursday.
The workers have sent a letter to Vizhuthugal NGOs four days ago, said the Director of Thangavel.
“They asked us to save them and we visited the unit.
Nine people from Kaniyur near Madathukulan in the Tirupur district, who worked in the unit, only Rs 1,000 as a weekly wage.
They worked in the unit for the past seven months.
Two of them managed to escape From there two days ago, “he said.
NGOs brought this problem to the knowledge of the pollachi sub-collector which ordered Animalai Tahsildar to save the workers.
A team consisting of revenue department officials, a police officer from the Kottur police station and Vizhuthugal members saved seven workers bound and took them to the Taluk Pollachi office.
“Bonded workers were released on Friday night and they were sent to their home town,” Thangavel added.
