Gurugram: A Turugram police team broke into another fake call center in the 40 sector and arrested five people on Thursday.
The call center, operating for the past 7 months, will deceive US citizens with modus operandi similar to those adopted by other fake centers damaged in recent months.
ACP (DLF) Karan Goel said the defendant would buy residents’ details from various sources and then send voice messages massed in bulk, say 3,000 to 4,000, at once.
The messages will threaten to block the amount of recipient’s social security, by saying the number has been used to commit fraud.
It will ask the recipient to “press 1” for the solution.
Not quickly doing the receiving press 1, the call will be directed to the call center in Gurugram.
People who receive calls will ask US citizens to pay for whatever between $ 800-1,000 to escape the actions of the department.
The target was asked to make a payment through a gift card.
The details of the card will then be sent to other people, who will redeem them and send money to the defendant after defending the commission.
The case has been registered with five people arrested under 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) IPC and parts 66D and 75 from IT acting at the Cyber Police Station.
“Availability of easy personal data from all over the world and the big population of English in the city makes it easier for gang to target US citizens,” Goel said.
These gangs, he added, usually have three groups – who collect target personal data, others who operate call centers and third ones that divert money received from the gift card.
Because these three groups operate from various locations and time zones, it is difficult for certain police to act against them all.
Many call centers like it have been arrested in Delhi-NCR lately.
This year, 13 Bogus call centers have been excavated in Gurugram.
In comparison, 10 such call centers were held back in the city as a whole of 2020.
The number of arrests has also shown an increasing trend.
Against 52 capture last year, the police have picked up 48 people in the first seven months of 2021.
Despite the actions of the police, all the defendants must be released on guarantees due to lack of evidence.
