NEW DELHI: Attari’s proximity to the India-Pakistan edge at Wagah offers the village its own identity globe over.
The range of the identity was reinforced a week using a sporting background, when Shamsher Singh became the first baseball player in Attari to be chosen within an Indian Olympic team.
“This is not the same sort of satisfaction” Shamsher’s humility laden with a feeling of disbelief represented in these basic words.
But just over 100 kilometers from Attari, there was not any such air of uncertainty at the famed Surjit Hockey Academy (SHA) at Jalandhar.
Normally teeming with young gamers, and adolescent giggles here and there, the SHA is an image of silence because the War struck.
Timesofindia’s telephone to trainer Avtar Singh has been, consequently, re-routed into his village.
“He [Shamsher] called me following his choice for the Olympics.
I kissed him.
He was quite humble.

Shamsher’s rising seriousness towards baseball convinced his dad that with good coaching his child could become much better.

Every trainer enjoys this caliber in a participant,” explained SHA trainer Avtar, who subsequently proceeded to describe what makes Shamsher Hurry as a participant.
“He’s essentially a double-role participant.
He could attack and contains exceptional defensive abilities also.
After he used to perform us, he had been a part of the platform where we need the participant to donate in both defence and attack, so he can form a portion of this assault and shore up the defence if necessary.
“That is why he’s been chosen from the Olympic team.
He’s a veteran participant.
We built him .” Avtar farther told TimesofIndia.com.
Speaking about constructing Shamsher, he had been a part of the scouting practice that trainer Harender Singh ran while constructing his own 2016 Junior World Cup group which finally lifted the prize from Lucknow.
Dilpreet Singh along with Hardik Singh, together with Shamsher, were contained in this camp.
None finally made the cut to the last 18, however it was shown to be the launchpad for those three.
This winner junior group of 2016 had 11 players out of SHA, and the tendency will probably continue in the Olympics in Tokyo, at which six SHA players can use exactly the India jersey over the largest point: Captain Manpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik, Dilpreet and Shamsher.

Shamsher, that plays an attacking midfielder, is recorded as a forwards in the group set for Olympics.
His choice before this experienced striker Akashdeep Singh did raise some eyebrows, however, Shamsher would like to steer away from any choice controversies.
Interestingly, each of the players chosen from the India forward-line, at the 16 man group, will make their Olympic debut in Tokyo.
“I can not say anything regarding staff selection.
However, it’s not there is a shortage of expertise from the forward-line.
Mandeep and Lalit [Upadhyay] might not have played in the Olympics earlier, but they’ve sufficient global experience,” that the 24-year-old Shamsher informed TimesofIndia.com.

It’ll be a test specially for him along with another nine debutants from the group, more so if the stakes get high and tension mounts deeper to the contest at Tokyo.
Shamsher had an extremely calculated response to that.
“I’d be truthful.
I never believed I’d reach here, however, something is that I began with fire and that I remain passionate about baseball,” he said, before adding credentials to his title.
