Beijing: Shanghai Disneyland was closed on Monday for a case of Coronavirus, when the Chinese authority pressed forward with their zero strategy of infection in front of the winter Olympics.
China has reduced most domestic cases to drip along the pandemic, but flare-ups in recent weeks have tested Beijing’s determination to eliminate Covid-19 because most of the world open.
There are 92 new cases reported Monday – the highest since mid-September.
Shanghai Disneyland was closed after a woman who visited the park was tested positive after returning home to neighboring provinces, state media said.
Disneyland said it would remain closed at least on Monday and Tuesday “to follow Pandemic Prevention and Control requirements”.
Re-opening date has not been confirmed, he added.
The park starts limiting new visitors to enter on Sunday, with everyone in the park needed to take the Covid-19 test before leaving.
Nearly 34,000 people have been tested on Monday morning, said the city government.
All tests return negative, he said, but added that those affected must stay away from work or school for at least two days and undergo further testing.
The country’s media recording showed a number of health workers in Hazmat’s suit in Disneyland, when visitors masked waiting under fireworks in the park landmark castle.
The closure came after the newly opened Universal Studio Beijing said Saturday that contact near infected people had been found among visitors the previous weekend.
All staff in the amusement park – which entered the “emergency prevention state” on Friday – had been tested negatively and no traces of the virus detected at the location, the park added.
The Chinese authorities did not show signs of succumbing to strict zero-covid policies.
Beijing will host the winter Olympics in less than 100 days, and the authorities say eradicating viruses are their biggest challenge in run-up.
About six million people are under the locking order, mostly in the northern part of China.
Mi Feng, spokesman for the National Health Commission, told a press conference on Saturday that the authorities would continue “forbid people in the locked community from leaving their home”.
Beijing introduced a new sidewalk on Saturday, including closing all theaters in the western district.
