Shepherd died in Tirunelveli; seven fainting in Tuticorin

Madurai: Heavy rain and lightning played chaos in several southern districts on Wednesday night when one person died in Tirunelveli and seven people fainted after lightning hit them.
The shepherd was identified as Muthu, 48, from Selathikulam near Radhapuram.
His relatives who went looking for him late at night found him dead with burns.
Seven Tuticorin people rushed to the government medical college and hospitals in Tirunelveli, where they underwent treatment.
In Tirunelveli, heavy rains began between 3:30 pm and 5pm attacked up to two hours and continued until night in several places in the core city.
Water entering the Corporation Pillai Manakavalama Hospital, caused a lot of difficulties for patients and hospital staff.
Students and people who returned from work naved the flood roads which also saw snar traffic until around 8pm.
Among the surrounding areas are buses while standing near the New Bus Stand, Samathanapuram, KTC Nagar, Manakavalam Pillai Nagar, Palayamkottai and wiped out.
Meanwhile, even when Kanyakumari limped back to normal, 14 houses were fully damaged and 100 in part in the 24 hours ended Wednesday 8 in the morning due to the effects after heavy rains that destroyed a few days ago.
There were 900 people still in 14 temporary shelters in the district on Wednesday night.
Most of them are in the coastal area inside and around Vaikaloor and Thengapattanam when stagnant water flows into the sea.
“The number of people moved as high as 5,386 three days ago when the district recorded an average rainfall of more than 100 mm for two consecutive days,” said an official.
