Shift focus because Karnataka reduces daily testing targets

Bengaluru: Taking a signal from the Guidelines for the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR), the State Health Department on Tuesday revised the Covid-19 daily testing target of 2.
8 lakh to two lakh.
At a meeting chaired by the Chairman of the Bakavaraj Bommai Minister on Monday, several aspects related to the Covid test were discussed.
The government finally decided to stop testing people without asymptomatics, including those who tested positively, as recommended by ICMR.
“The number of tests can be reduced gradually.
However, in Bengaluru, the daily target of one Lakh test must be continued,” said Covid-19 state member AD Visory Committee (TAC) who participated in the discussion.
Dr.
Arundhathi Chandrasekhar, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Karnataka, also Nodal officers for Covid-19 testing, said the state had done 1.
5 lakh tests daily until January 12, when enhanced to 2.
8 lakh followed Con Gress in Hyatra.
“When we want to increase the daily testing target to two lakh, inyatra occurred and testing increased in Ramanagara and Bengaluru districts,” Dr.
Chandrasekhar said.
“So, the daily testing target rose to 2.
8 lakh per day.
Now, it has been reduced to two lakh a day.” He said the country would continue to test the main contacts at high risk of covidpositive people, depending on age and comorbidity.
It is higher than other countries “even at the rate of reduction of these two lakh tests a day, the testing scenario in Karnataka is much better than other countries,” said Dr.
CN Manjunath, Nodal Officer for Covid testing and TAC members.
Statistics release this.
For example, on January 10, Karnataka has done more than 1.
5 Lakh tests, while Andhra Pradesh conducted 24,280 tests, Telangana 70,697 and Tamil Nadu top 1.
3 lakh.
“We compared testing figures with other cities and Bengaluru still compares well.
On January 10, Bengaluru had done 71,568 tests, while Mumbai did 48.114, Chennai 23,858, and Hyderabad 12,461,” said the source.
This data is presented to CM Bommai on Monday.
ICMR recommends a “purposive test” strategy, with a focus on those who are competing and risky contacts from covidpositive people.
“ICMR has registered which does not need to be tested,” experts said.
“This includes individuals without symptoms in community settings; Contact from Covid Cases confirmed unless identified as high risk based on age and comorbidity; and patients who are dismissed from hospitals and from house isolation.” End the source’s random test said the experts recommended that the government stop Random tests on the general population in places such as markets, malls, factories, offices and hotels in addition to restaurant and other staff.
Experts say current requirements are to ensure that cost-effective testing.
“The focus now has to shift from infection to the case.
The authorities must detect those who are omitted and start the earliest treatment and isolate them.
The focus both reduces hospitalization and preventing death,” Experts said.
