Ship auctions: CM Looking for PM to enter

MADURAI: The Chairman of the Minister M K Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is looking for an urgent intervention to stop the transfer of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for the Sri Lankan government to auction 105 ships owned by Tamil Nadu’s fishermen.
He urged the center to register his disapproval in terms as strong as possible when Lankan authorities did not have legal rights to auctione in a fishing boat.
Stalin expressed disappointment over the process initiated by the Sri Lankan department.
According to an ad released by the Director General of the SJ Kahawatta Department, all 105 ships are Boat Trawling – 65 ships in Karainagar (February 7), Lima in Kankesanurai (February 8), 24 ships in Kiranchi (February 9), nine in thianstar (10 February) and two in Kalpitiya (February 11) must be auctioned.
CM states that this poor development has come when the working group with Indo-Sri Lanka in fisheries will meet.
Money for auction has created alarms and distrust among TN fishermen who have advanced with an accommodating mind framework to find a peaceful solution for this old pending problem (from TN fishing fishermen in traditional fish fields in Lanka waters).
He said that the ministry of external affairs had asked the Tamil Nadu government to send a technical team to complete the process and modalities to remove 125 TN fishing boats that could not be formed in various port Sri Lanka.
The state government has also issued an order to continue the officials and stakeholders to examine and supervise the disposal of fishing vessels and to transfer sales to ship owners in India.
Schedule of visits to Sri Lanka for this purpose is communicated to the Ministry of External Affairs.
While the positive initiative was taken, advertisements in newspapers to auction outbreaking fishermen in various port Sri Lanka published.
Fast for auctioned without consultation is therefore bound to thwart the efforts of union and state government in providing some assistance to poor fishermen who lose their livelihood facilities, he said.
This is related to this unexpected fishing boat released by various Sri Lanka courts after the judicial procedure, Stalin said and urged the center to register his disagreement in the strongest requirements at the appropriate level and apply to the Sri Lankan government to remember the ad to auction outbreak of Tamil fishermen Nadu where they do not have legal rights.
CM requested the center to continue the transparent disposal effort from the ship 125 Tamil Nadu who had been arrested before 2018 and asked him to ensure the initial release of 75 ships and rods confiscated by Navy Sri Lanka after 2018.
Rajya Sabha’s member and Secretary General of the Vaiko MDMK also urged The United States government to stop the auction of the TN fishing boat in Sri Lanka.
