Mumbai: In the first victory of Sabha outside Maharashtra, Shiv Sena won by-election to Dadra’s seat and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Kalaben Delkar, the widow of the former MP Mohan Delkar, won a chair with a margin of 51,269 votes.
Kalaben defeated the candidate BJP Mahesh Gavit.
Mohan is a member of Parliament of Independent from Dadra and Nagar Haveli who committed suicide in Mumbai in February.
Kalaben joined Shiv Sena recently.
He dedicated his victory to Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Kaaben surveyed 1,18,035 votes and Gavit Baunded 66,766 votes.
Choosing a chair, which is part of the Dadra Union and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, took place on October 30.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who is one of the party’s main election managers, said this was Sena’s first step outside Maharashtra.
“The first step outside Maharashtra, a giant leap towards Delhi through Dadra Nagar Haveli!” He tweeted immediately after the results along with his photo with the Chairman of the Minister and President of Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray.
Sena has made a prestige problem contest and decided to take BJP head-on.
The Minister of Environment Aaditya Thackeray last week urged voters to end BJP’s “dictatorship”.
While Sena Shiv has opposed many elections outside Maharashtra, it never won the Lok Sabha constituency outside the state.
With this election victory, Shiv Sena now has 19 members of parliament at Lok Sabha.

Mohan Delkar, a MP seven times, was found dead in a room at the Sea Green South Hotel on Marine Drive on February 22.
The police said he had ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan, and also left 14 fans.

He rejoined the Congress and was not successfully contested in 2009 and 2014.
He won the chair in the 2019 Sabha Election as independent.
