JAIPUR: Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a station house officer (SHO) and a head constable posted at Banetha police station in Tonk district for taking a bribe of Rs 15,000.
Sub-inspector Babu Lal posted as SHO and head constable Ram Dhan were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money.
DG (ACB) B L Soni said that the two cops demanded money to release a seized tractor lorry.
“The two cops also promised to weaken the case which was filed against the complainant,” he said.
The accused initially demanded Rs 30,000 from the complainant.
On Wednesday, the cops agreed to receive Rs 15,000.
According to Soni, the ACB unit in Sawai Madhopur was roped in after the complainant alleged that cops at Banetha police station were asking for a bribe.
Additional SP (ACB), Sawai Madhopur unit, Surendra Kumar, was directed to verify the complaint.
The officials found allegations against the SHO and head constable to be convincing and laid a trap.
“The complainant had already paid some amount during the verification process a few days ago,” an official said.
Ram Dhan was the investigation officer (IO) in the seizure of the tractor-trolley.
“The complainant alleged he was harassed by the cops for a bribe, therefore, he approached the ACB and filed a complaint,” said an official, adding that the SHO was left completely dazed when ACB sleuths closed in on him.
