Coimbatore: The flower market in the city crowded at night Vinayaka Chaturthi on Thursday, because a large number of people turned out to buy ganesh idols and other puja items.
The Padang tree said the crowd could be ignored until 4pm.
But people began to spoil the market when they came out of workplace afternoon.
Social distance norms go for throws on the market.
“Because the number of people is solely, we cannot control them,” said the shopkeeper.
Flower vendors said the situation was not much different on Wednesday.
Flower prices, meanwhile, soaring because of large demand.
Jasmine, which is sold at Rs 400 per kg, is given a price of 1,400 Rs on Wednesday.
Likewise, the prices of other flowers also have skyrocketed.h azath, a trader, said the price was slightly down on Thursday, when Jasmine was sold anywhere between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000 per kg.
He said Mullai was propagated at a price of Rs 600 per kg, Seventhi (Chrysanthemum) at Rs 120 (per kg), Oleander at Rs 250 (per kg), the button rose 230 (per kg) and bunch rose (20 flowers) at Rs 120 “Prices dropped on the day due to increased supply and demand lower than the previous day.
Most traders have bought flowers in bulk on Wednesday itself,” he said.
Idlavinayaka sellers are also happy because they can sell more idols this year.
Last year, they could only sell a small portion of the idol they had made because of restrictions on the spot.
G Selvam, an idol seller in Pasar Bunga, said, “This sales encourages this year and we hope that around 70% -80% of ordinary sales this time.” Areas such as Ganapati, Saantadur, Thudiyalur and Vilankurichi also watched a large crowd, which turned out to buy idols and puja.b maragatham items, a resident of Ganapathy, said the idol at a high price this year.
“But it’s not a deterrent, as I spend it only once a year.
We usually visit a temple to celebrate the festival.
This time, we plan to limit the celebration to the house due to restrictions on the spot.”
