Chennai: Because the number of flights has increased, international passengers have begun to face delays in the immigration counter at Chennai Airport.
Two back-to-back flights cause a long queue at the immigration counter.
Flyers complained that because there was enough counters, but only a few of them were opened.
On Sunday, passengers faced delays more than one hour in the afternoon because two flights landed one by one due to the delay in the flight schedule.
Initially, there were only four counters which then increased to six after people began to complain.
Unlike at a foreign airport, the immigration counter is not manned in Chennai based on the number of aviation or passengers coming.
Airport sources, however, said that additional counters were not manned to accelerate permission even when there was a large crowd waiting in the queue.
Delays on immigration, registration, and payment for Covid-19 tests, luggage collections and waiting to provide swab samples takes time and make passengers wait at least two hours before they can get out of the facility.
Basheer Ahmed from Chennai Metro Travels said, “We have received feedback from passengers who have health screening formalities and immigration checks cause delays.
It takes around two and a half hours for passengers to get out of the terminal.
It only takes 45 minutes.
For passengers to get out in the future Pre-Covid.
People say that no one guides passengers about the formality out.
“A senior AAI official said this problem was caused by lack of staff at immigration.
“We have 18 counters on international arrivals.
But often they only operate 12 counters.
There is a lack of staff.”
