Short supply pushes the price of onions, tomatoes in Assam

Guwahati: Towards the celebration season, the price of vegetables, including staples such as tomatoes and onions, has soared because of the lack of supply on the market, triggering extensive hatred among consumers.
Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 80 per kg, which is a 100% increase, and joke on onions at 60 per kg, which is a 60% increase compared to last week.
“The price of onions has been turned on more than Rs 20 per kg within one week.
The wholesale price of onions is currently standing at Rs 42-43.
Onions cannot be saved.
Prices can pass 100-marks in the coming days, President” Kumprup Commerce (KCC ), Mahavir Jain, told TII.
He said northeast depends on other countries for important commodities, including onions.
Most of the onions come from Maharashtra where there are shortcomings and this in turn has climbed prices at Assam.
Weather fluctuations, stockpiling and manipulation prices also increase price increases, traders said.
“Transportation from sources and losses during further storage adds costs,” Jain added.
Assam needed around 1,875 tons of onions a week where Guwahati himself needed 700 tons.
Traders say the price of vegetables increases every week because the lack of supply and trends will continue until November when new plants are harvested.
“The price of almost all types of vegetables has surged 30-40%, with tomatoes sold for Rs 90 per kg, up from RS 40 because less supply.
Vegetables supplied to Guwahati mainly from Kharupetia, Dalgaon, Road Barpeta and neighboring Shillong, “Ainal Haq, a vendor in Ulubari said.
Demand for vegetables has increased in Guwahati as restaurants, restaurants and food chains have begun to operate.
Masur Dal and the price of Mustard oil has also been soaring.
On Friday, all masters in the wholesale market are sold for Rs 91 per kg, while in the Retail Market Masur Dal is available for Rs 98 / kg.
“Three weeks ago, Masur sold with Rs 80 per kg in the wholesale market.
Mustard oil is sold at a minimum price of Rs 200 per liter,” said a trader.
