PANAJI: A e-mulakhat (e-meeting) which will allow offenders in the Colvale Central Jail to get in touch with their family or even a friends via a video telephone, will start soon.
The programme, that will be in its first stage, has been released in some prisons in different areas of the nation.
Together with the state’s biggest prison not accepting individuals for more than a year as a result of pandemic — offenders are only permitted telephonic calls with consent from the prison’s government — that the e-mulakhat centre is anticipated to solve most problems, a prison official said.
Full-fledged debut of this initiative was postponed because of connectivity problems brought on by the continuing highway expansion function along with cyclone Tauktae, ” the official stated.
E-mulakhat needs computers, a solid system, and kiosks inside the prison.
The officer, however, stated it wouldn’t be successful unless the connectivity problem is sorted out.
“Ours is the only prison in the nation, and thus the centre was extended to people.
Though it was launched before the authorities of Covid-19 constraints, it had been stopped because of connectivity problems,” he explained.
