Religious: Some farmers in the Beggia Blok District Ganjam blockade the road for the second day on Tuesday, demanding that their rice purchased with minimum support prices (MSP) regardless of quality.
Farmers with rice bags held a road blockade on the main road of Sumandal.
Officials together with the police visited the place and tried to calm anxious farmer, the Chief District Supply Officer (CDSO), said Ganjam Pusha Munda.
Agitators alleged that Miller wanted to get 80kg of rice, instead of 75kg at MSP RS 1940 per quintal, quoting the quality of inferior rice.
“We want quality norms to relax this time because the farmers in the district suffer from heavy rain.
Paddy has changed color because of water logging followed by rain,” Desabandhu Jena said from Burujhari Village.
“We have suffered a lot because the rain is not season.
We have not received compensation for our losses.
At least the government must buy all rice regardless of quality, “he added.
