Hyderabad police on Wednesday ordered actor Siddharth for allegedly made a condescending comment on the bronze medalist of the Saina Nehwal Olympics on Twitter.
In the telephone conversation, KVM Prasad, additional DCP, Wing Crime Cyber, Detective Department, Hyderabad said, “A woman named Prerna approached Wing Cyber Crime and filed a complaint to actor Sidharth for her sexist comments on Shuttler Saina Nehwal on Twitter.”
Police officials said that the case of complaints of cases had been registered below in Section 509 of Indian criminal codes and 67 information technology laws and investigations had been taken.
Notifications will be presented to Sidharth, additional DCP added.
Siddharth had been swallowed up in the controversy that erupted after the actor in twitter posts on January 6, Retweet a post by Nehwal where he had expressed concern for the security violations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Punjab visit on January 5.
Activists slam Siddharth’s comments, call it “sexist, misogynist” and demanded that he apologize to Nehwal.
NCW also said that comments by actors were “misogynist and outrageously with the simplicity of a woman as big as not respecting and insulting female dignity on the social media platform.” Subequently, the actor apologized to Nehwal on Tuesday night, after receiving criticism of his “rough jokes” which was directed to the badminton player.
In an open letter, Siddharth confirmed that the ‘word game’ and ‘humor’ did not have evil intentions.
