Sii gets a nod to send Covid vaccines to Nepal, Bangaldesh, Myanmar, Mass to Astrazeneca; Bharat Biotech to Iran

New Delhi: The government has allowed the Indian Serum Institute (SII) to export 10 doses of each dose to Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh, while Bharat Biotech will provide Iran with 10 lakh covaxin doses under the ‘Maitri Vaccine’ program in October, Source officially said on Thursday.
Pune SII-based pharmaceutical company was also allowed to supply the Covishield bulk vaccine, which was equivalent to around 3 doses of crore, to AstraZeneca in England, they told PTI.
According to these sources, Prakash Kumar Singh, Director (Government affairs and regulations) in SII have requested permission from the Mansukh Mandaviya Health Minister for August to supply mass concentrated solutions from the Covishield for AstraZeneca citing contractual obligations with the Company.
Mandaviya on September 20 announced that India would continue the exports of the Covid-19 surplus vaccine in the fourth quarter of 2021 under the ‘Maitri Vaccine’ program and to fulfill its commitment to the Global Covax pool.
“While the 10 doses of Lakh Bharat Biotech Covaxin will be sent to Iran, the Indian Serum Institute will export 10 doses of Lakh Covishield each to Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh under the ‘Maitri Vaccine’ program in October,” the official source told PTI.
“Furthermore, the Serum Institute has been given permission to supply mass covishield, equivalent to around 3 crore doses, to Astrazeneca this month,” said the source.
SII has increased the production capacity of the covishield to more than 20 doses of crore per month and has notified the center that he will be able to supply around 22 crore doses in October.
Also, Bharat Biotech currently produces almost 3 doses of covaxin crore every month and production is likely to increase up to 5 crores in the coming months.
In recent communication to the center, SII also assured that on December 31, it would complete the supply of 66 crore covishield doses against the recent sequence and would touch the inventory of more than 130 crore doses in 2021.
