New Delhi: India Serum Institute (SII) will begin to supply the inactive polio vaccine (IPV) to the Workers Union Government for Universal Immunization Programs since this month, becoming the first customary company to do it, the official source said on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Health Union has recently placed a purchase order with SII for the dose of IPV 54 lakh vaccine.
So far, the government depends on Sanofi, a foreign pharmaceutical company to supply IPV to a universal immunization program.
“I want to tell you that our company, Serum Institute of India has become the first Indian manufacturer to supply the inactive polyomyelitis vaccine (IPV) to Mohfw which will protect our children from Poliomyelitis,” Prakash Kumar Singh, Director, Government, and regulatory affairs in SII communicate with the Ministry of Health recently.
IPV SII is a pre-qualified world health organization for inventory to various countries around the world as well.
The Ministry of Health Uni has also made orders with sanofi for supply of 36 doses of IPV Lakh.

The first LOT IPV will be supplied to GMSD (Depot Medical Store Government) this month immediately for vaccination programs according to the needs of the Ministry of Health.

India was officially declared polio-free in 2014, but the immunization program continued in this country.
IPV has been introduced in the Universal Immunization Program as part of the global polio end-game strategy, to reduce the risk associated with a trivalent oral polio vaccine to switch oral bivalent polio vaccines.
IPV was introduced in November 2015 at first in six states, which were expanded throughout the country in April 2016.
