Amritsar: Narendra Modi’s journey to declare December 26 as “Veer Baal Diawas” to pay tribute to Sons Martyrs from Gobind Singh’s teacher, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh has raised a mixed response from the Sikh organization, with objections centered around the choice of names.
Shiroman Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which has the biggest representation of Sikh, recognizes the announcement as a possible emotional movement while indicating that it does not have the approval of Panth’s (Order Order).
Sikh Seminary Damdami Taxi, which was associated with Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, praised the decision even when Shiromani Akali Dal (D) looked for changes in the name because Sahibzadas was honored as “Babas” in Sikh’s faith.
“We respect Modi sentiment, but at the same time limit the martyrdom of Sahibzadas to turn baal diwas not to represent emotions, ideology, and sentiment behind the martyr and Sikh tradition,” said President Singh Dhami Singh Dhami.
